Yozaira Leon-Santiago
Counselor -
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and Puerto Rico and have 7 years of experience in the behavioral healthcare field. Currently I am a Bilingual (Spanish) mental health clinician in a detention center working with young immigrants. Before that, I served as MST (Multisystemic) therapist in the community that dealt with juveniles with serious criminal offenses and are possibly abusing substances. I am experienced with the emotional problems that occur in adults, adolescents and children. I have specialized training with family therapy, trauma of all types (including domestic violence, sexual abuse and assault and victims of crime), depression and anxiety.I believe in providing goal-directed treatment. This means that a goal or several goals are established after a thorough assessment. All treatment is then planned with the goal in mind and progress is made toward the goal in a time-efficient manner.I take a collaborative and supportive stance in my approach to therapy and my patients tell me that I am comfortable to be with and easy to talk to. I continuously read related literature, keep myself up to date with the ethical and legal guidelines in the field, and the latest research, and attend conferences and trainings.I believe in creating a space where we can have difficult conversations, work on resolving issues and collaborate on treatment plans that are tailored to your personal needs and experiences. Thank you for trusting me, I am here for you and I look forward to working with you!
