Terri Hager
Clinical Social Worker/Psychotherapist - MSW, LCSW
People often do not know they even have an inner core of health and often think something is innately wrong with them. You are not broken, even if you feel like you are. What you are living with may very difficult and painful, but that doesn’t mean there is anything inherently wrong with you. I use methods such as Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems Therapy, and EMDR. The focus of this kind of psychotherapy is releasing the blocks to your own natural, peaceful, healthy state. These blocks are the result of painful things that have happened in the past. I consider it a sign of strength to ask for help.
I get many clients who are looking from relief from anxiety, because anxiety is so terribly painful. With some, the anxiety is accompanied by panic attacks, which drives many people to the ER. Therapy for anxiety takes two parts: first, I teach you how to calm down your nervous system, which you practice doing at home regularly, and we discuss physical things that could be exacerbating your anxiety (too much caffeine, for example). After that, we spend time working on what is causing the anxiety in the first place. I find EFT and/or EMDR to be very valuable in this stage.
Another major area in my practice is grief, which can be absolutely excruciating. I am certified in a new form of grief therapy called Repair and Reattachment Grief Therapy, which is a major breakthrough in this field. It helps you heal from the devastating effects of grief much faster and more deeply than traditional grief therapy. The process helps clear out the trauma aspects around your loved one’s death and keeps you strongly connected with them. I do traditional grief therapy with people who are not ready for the Repair and Reattachment process.
At the present time, I offer online sessions exclusively. I use an extremely secure platform for this, and it avoids the issues of illness and bad weather. I use a private, confidential space, and you should also find a space that is private and where you cannot be heard. I find that, when done it this way, online therapy is very effective.
