Sophia Cannon
Licensed Professional Counselor - MCRC, CRC, LPC
I know what it’s like to be a client. I know how scary it is to trust a stranger with some of your darkest thoughts and deepest secrets. That’s why I have a slightly different approach with each of my clients. As a counselor I have all of the education, training, experience and state approvals to help each of my clients. But before I can help them, I prefer to allow my clients to show me where they are on their journey. To describe their struggles and ensure I understand what’s troubling them the most. Then we work together to meet the health, personal and professional goals, while addressing any new issues that may arise.
I graduated with my Master’s degree in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, from the University of TX Southwestern Medical Center. Unlike many other counseling degrees, this program allowed me to learn about the Mind and the Body. I was trained to address the impact of Biological, Psychological and Sociological issues that can cause distress or discomfort.
For a counseling relationship to be successful, it must be a good fit for myself and my client. I’ve had my share of “not so great counseling” and it was because I was afraid to say, “I don’t feel like you understand me.” I want my clients to be able to express their needs so I can help them find a “good fit”. My goal is help even if i’m not the one helping.
