Shakeerrah Lawrence
Licensed Mental Health Counselor -
Over the past two years, we experienced an unprecedented amount of loss, trauma, and uncertainty. I understand the dynamic nature of our being, especially as a Black person. In an ever-changing climate, I feel it is important to ensure that safe spaces exist for us to grow, learn, flourish, and heal. With the right support and guidance, the counseling environment can remain a safe and non-judgmental space for self-expression, greater awareness, and embracing one’s authentic self. We all face different challenges; some more daunting than others. Whatever difficulty you face, you deserve to have support to help face those challenges. My current areas of focus and expertise include the following: Black/African American mental health, work-related issues, burnout/compassion fatigue, race-based stress; career development/planning; anxiety, and academic-related stress and trauma. I provide an integrative approach reflecting humanistic, existential, and culturally sensitive modalities.I respect each person’s unique characteristics and demonstrate unconditional positive regard during sessions. I tailor sessions to meet each individual’s specific needs as we work together to determine the most appropriate goals to achieve moving forward. As I strive to continuously improve my wellbeing, I hope to support others as they work to do the same.
