Sara Todd

Psychotherapist -

Life feels like such a struggle. Every day is drudgery. You hate yourself. You often think, “There’s something wrong with me…I’m broken.” Powerful emotions such as shame, guilt, and sadness rule your life. You don’t feel alive. You don’t have any desires. Your thoughts can get so dark. You are constantly replaying situations and conversations with others and over-analyzing what you think you did wrong or what you could have done differently. You frequently feel hurt, rejected, or shamed in your interactions with friends, family, coworkers, or partners. It makes it hard to open up and feel close. Depression is stealing your life from you. You so badly want relief.

My name is Sara Todd and I support teens and adults struggling with depression, who feel so utterly alone and overcome with self-judgment. Through our work together, you can feel more vitality in your life and know yourself in deeper and richer ways. With greater self-awareness and more steadiness, you can recognize and stop old patterns driving your depression– whether that be patterns of thinking, feeling, or in relationship with others. The therapy relationship can provide a sense of safety and support that aids your healing process.

If you self-identify with a marginalized social, political, sexual, economic, ethnic, or spiritual community or culture, I commit to work with you in a way that’s respectful and aware of our differences and your lived experience. All genders, sexualities, relationship orientations, abilities, and body sizes are radically welcome.

My approach is grounded in a psychodynamic understanding of the mind that integrates mindfulness and somatic practices. I emphasize your feelings and felt bodily experience. We will work to address the underlying causes of the issues that bring you to therapy. After some time, you will find more freedom to move beyond unhelpful or stuck patterns. The knowledge you gain about yourself will allow you more choice in how you respond to situations. You will have a better understanding of your feelings and desires and a deeper connection to your body.
