Sarah Meister
Psychotherapist MA, NCC -
Sarah is a Psychotherapist at Millennium Counseling Center and received her Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University. Sarah previously worked in the Chicagoland area as a Public Relations Specialist upon receiving a Bachelor’s in Journalism from the University of Missouri. Sarah has since shifted careers to focus on her passion for counseling and psychotherapy. Sarah’s theoretical orientation is grounded in a psychodynamic approach that promotes the exploration of how our past heavily influences our present.
Sarah believes it’s imperative to meet the client where they’re at, creating a safe and therapeutically sound alliance. Sarah is passionate about treating clients with concerns related to self-esteem, body-image, couple and/or family conflict, infidelity, grief, relational trauma, anxiety and depression, mood disorders, addiction and recovery-related work, career concerns, perfectionism, transitional life-stages, and issues unique to athletic performance. Sarah is a firm believer in process-oriented healing, working with clients to heal from past wounds, as they grow into emotionally and mentally healthy individuals.
Sarah was a three sport High School Varsity Athlete, and went on to play Division 1 Collegiate Volleyball at the University of Missouri, where she earned an SEC Championship Title after an undefeated season. Sarah attributes her successes in the sports arena to positive coaching, sports psychology, and mental health counseling. These methodologies have heavily influenced her current counseling practice, as she pursues a specialization in counseling student-athletes from both a sport performance and emotional well-being perspective. Sarah believes that the mind and body connection are crucial in managing and coping with performance related stressors and the mental health of the student-athlete. Through Sarah’s extensive experience in the collegiate athletic setting, she understands the existing demands and stressors that elite athlete’s experience, and takes a holistic approach in helping them heal and grow.
