How can my child be happy?
The parents I work with fear their child (including teens, young adults, and young professionals) might struggle indefinitely with their emotional and behavioral issues. They’re concerned about the lasting impact mental illness will have on their happiness and success.
What are we missing?
My client’s parents worry they may be missing a crucial piece of the puzzle and that something could be undiagnosed. They believe that if properly identified, treatment could be more effective.
Furthermore, the stress of managing their child’s issues has taken a significant emotional toll on themselves and, often, the entire family. They worry about their own mental and physical health. The guilt and shame that come with feeling like a failed parent add another layer of distress.
These concerns are normal and natural.
If this sounds like you, know these worries are totally normal and natural. You’re supposed to feel distressed in distressing situations. It would kind of be weird if you didn’t feel distressed about your child, because you love them.
And you’re not alone. Did you know the CDC found that almost 45% of Texas high school students report feeling so sad or hopeless that they stop some usual activities nearly every day for 2 or more weeks? In fact, almost 20% of Texas high school students seriously consider suicide, and 12% actually attempt suicide. Many Texas parents are feeling the same heart break.
But, it doesn’t have to be this way.
A famous psychologist once said, “Kids do well when they can.” That quote is at the heart of my belief about change. Youth get stuck when they lack the skills to get unstuck and on target.
What would it be like if your child learned how to control their behavior amidst an emotional storm? What would it be like if your child learned how to stop struggling with their emotions and started living and sharing their life? Let’s say their life got just 20% better. How much better would you sleep?
My name is Dr. Ryne Pulido.
My mission is to provide science-supported knowledge to give guidance, direction, and hope to youth as they navigate their way to their meaningful life.
I earned my PhD from Texas A&M University. I’ve trained and worked at academic children’s hospitals such as Mclane Children’s Hospital in Temple, TX, Children’s Health in Dallas, TX, and Children’s Hospital Colorado in Aurora, CO.
Now, I’m a psychologist who supports youth and families in Georgetown, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, and other north Austin metro areas at my private practice in Georgetown, TX.
My non-medication approach involves evaluating your child’s skillset to find the ones that need development. Then, teach evidence-based skills for change. And if I don’t know how to teach those skills, I’ll tell you who can!
Neuropsychological Evaluations
You need more than a diagnosis. A comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation identifies your child’s skill strengths and weaknesses on which we create a focused plan for your child. An assessment can evaluate:
ADHD and ADD
Autism
Dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and other learning problems
Chronic emotional and behavioral problems, such as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) and high dependence in adults (“failure to launch”).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
I provide evidence-based counseling and therapy. My primary approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a modern form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
ACT aims to help youth build richer, more meaningful, and fuller lives. The bigger our lives get, the smaller anxiety, depression, anger, guilt, shame, trauma, and grief become by comparison.
Over 1,000 published articles in peer-reviewed journals show that ACT can help with a wide range of psychological problems and populations, including children. That’s no surprise, because the skills are easy to learn and effective.
Typically, parents seek my help for….
ADHD coaching
Living with autism
Angry outbursts, defiance, and disruptive behavior problems
Anxiety and high avoidance
High dependence in young adults (“failure to launch”)
