Fred Kiesel
Student Intern -
Fred’s clinical interests are currently within the realms of Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance/Commitment Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I have experience in utilizing Dialectic Behavior Training (DBT) approaches and continue to study and implement DBT. I am interested in providing group therapy, couples’ therapy, and individual therapy. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Psychology from Bemidji State University and have been working in the field of mental health and social work for almost a decade. I have experience in providing a variety of mental health services and overseeing various transitional housing and supported-living programs in St. Paul and Minneapolis. I have provided Adult Rehabilitative Mental Health Services (ARMHS), Vocational Rehabilitative Services (VRS), Individualized Living Skills (ILS), among others. I believe in the efficacy of holistic approaches to physical and mental well-being. This involves a therapist tailoring their approach to meet each individual’s needs and preferences, through integration of different types of therapeutic approaches. Additionally, my interest and study of neuroscience has led me to emphasize the interaction between physical and mental health, in the work I do. I am passionate about providing therapy that is multiculturally-sensitive and am always seeking to broaden my knowledge and expertise in that. My experience has highlighted the importance of providing person-centered planning and support, which involves consideration of the wishes/needs of the client first, and that continues to be a theme in my work.My hobbies/interests are music, camping, carpentry, and spending timewith family and my pets.He is currently completing his Master’s Degree in Counseling and Psychological Services at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Fred is working under the licensed supervision of Rachel Herr, MA, LPCC.
