Omolade Rosalyn Roddy, LCSW
Psychotherapist - Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
Over 30 years of professional experience utilizing a critical psychotherapeutic framework, including techniques gained from transformative justice practices and grassroots advocacy has informed the direction of my work.
I provide holistic, strength-based, collaborative, non-diagnostic & sex-positive psychotherapy which focuses on building resilience, empowerment and letting go of shame.
My practice is informed by the work that I do with all that I serve; however, the true success of my practice has been developed through my work serving those impacted by institutional betrayal (trauma) related to criminal justice, mental health, educational, military and foster-care systems.
I work with people in an alternative relationship (partnered non-monogamy/polyamory) and those with traditional monogamous relationship issues such as infidelity, mistrust, and ineffective communication; providing a safe space for poly relationships/individuals to work on other issues without fear of having their open relationship pathologized.
I provide clinical support in efforts of empowering formerly incarcerated women and men with the tools needed for healing and navigating the complex challenges of reentering their communities and cultivating healthy relationships.
All of my work is grounded in the belief that we each have an infinite capacity for growth, change, and connection.
Integrative, Relational and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies (CBT), Psycho-education and even Ritual are some of the modalities that I use to bring insight, healing, and transformation to those I serve. I approach cases from a critical therapeutic perspective which considers how race, class, gender, and socio/cultural conditions impact identity and the day-to-day functioning of individuals and communities.
I do not take Medicare or Medical-Cal, nor am I on insurance panels.
Often the use of psychiatric diagnoses imposes stigmatized and standardized beliefs about mental and cognitive differences. In my years of work, I know that not everyone seeking therapy has a mental illness or disorder. Some struggle with life stressors and transitions, and need only to discuss their thoughts and feelings with a professional. Not accepting Insurance or Medi-Cal/Care. affords me the flexibility needed to draw upon the strength-based, non-diagnostic clinical approaches and move beyond the symptom management focus that diagnostic paradigms encourage.
I am licensed in the state of California (LCS28484); Certified in Anger Management Group Facilitation, Restorative Justice Circle Facilitation; Parenting Skills (Nurturing Parenting Model), Mindfulness and Batterers Group Facilitation. Also trained in the facilitation of Emotional Emancipation (EE) Circles, “Seeking Safety” (trauma-focused psycho-education) and have advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
