Nikki Heeren
Marriage & Family Therapist - LMFT
Welcome. My approach integrates the importance of both change and self-acceptance. With your goals in mind, we work to identify and shift negative thought patterns, such as having an overly critical inner voice or experiencing intrusive thoughts or memories of past traumas. We work to uncover and practice new tools for coping with overwhelming emotions, such as feelings of hopelessness or fear during a major life transition. We also focus on strengthening skills for communicating needs and boundaries with others in order to improve and deepen our relationships, increasing a sense of security.Interwoven throughout this change and growth model, we also build on concepts of acceptance and self-compassion, in which we work to understand and integrate struggles and failings as essential aspects of ourselves, our humanness, releasing shame and expanding into to a deeper, healthier, more balanced understanding of ourselves.I have additional training in CBT that includes completing the Practice-Based Intensive Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Training through the DBT National Certification and Accreditation Association. DBT is a specific type of CBT and I often use interventions from this approach that focus on positive coping and interpersonal skills. Call me for a free phone consultation to see if we would be a good match to work together.
