Nicole Barquist
Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate and Art Therapist -
The current climate we are living in can feel unbearable at times and this can compound many aspects of our lives from interpersonal struggle to relationships to work and so on. Sometimes simply being heard and seen by someone can make a world of difference. I work with each client to help them align or realign with strengths that may have been lost or forgotten. Using an individualized approach, I work to meet each client where they are. While I specialize in Art Therapy, I also have experience using Narrative, Attachment and Trauma informed modalities.
I have an MA in Mental Health Counseling with an Art Therapy specialization from Antioch University in Seattle. I am an honors graduate from Portland State University with a BA in Child and Family Studies. Both my undergraduate and graduate degrees have a focus on social justice which is of great importance to me in my practice and personal life. I also have experience working with persons with eating disorders, refugees, abuse survivors (including children), persons in psychiatric settings and the homeless population.
I have a particular interest in working with persons experiencing paraphilia, specifically minor attraction. It is my understanding that persons who experience paraphilia and are non-offending, are often plagued with issues like isolation, major depression and suicidality. I have the utmost compassion for working with the human condition in all of its forms and approach the therapeutic space with curiosity. To ensure client confidentiality and security I use a HIPPA approved telehealth platform, when conducting online therapy.
