Are you seeking help around making changes in your life or gaining some personal understanding? Or are you looking to improve your overall sense of well-being? Perhaps you have come up against obstacles to achieving goals in any area of your life such as your health or relationships? Or maybe you simply feel a little stuck. If this is the case, I am here to help.
I use an interactive approach to better understand your perspective, engaging with you by asking deep questions. We’ll work in an inviting and safe space so you can grow and discuss your concerns. I’m interested in the role personal narrative and self-exploration can play in identifying patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. This process helps you define your own goals.
From there, we’ll discover the obstacles to reaching these goals, then explore options for removing these barriers. I use an integrative approach that is strongly grounded in family systems and psychodynamic theory. I’ve worked with a variety of populations, of various ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, genders, and socioeconomic classes.
Psychotherapy is designed to enable the client to gain insight into the nature of the frustrations, blockages and conflicts which are inhibiting emotional and social growth as they progress towards a kind of self-actualization. It is the therapist’s job to be an active facilitator in this process by providing a safe, nurturing and accepting atmosphere for the client to achieve these goals. It is important to understand that therapy is an active therapeutic conversation which engages the client to delve into their issues with therapeutic guidance. I have never viewed the process of therapy is a monologue to be provided by the patient with the therapist simply nodding her head or adding only a word or two. It is the energy of the therapeutic conversation which stimulates the patient to grow and develop emotionally and socially.
