Monika Kushwaha
Psychologist - PsyD
Thich Nhat Hahn reminds us that “there can be no lotus flower without the mud.” While I wholly believe that our struggles can give rise to a beautiful life, I also know that finding that flower within the mud can be difficult to do alone. If you’ve been struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, or other intense emotional difficulties, let me help you find your way to a life worth living. I take a mindfulness-based approach in my work and integrate Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, and relational-cultural strategies based on your individual needs. My goal is provide a safe environment where you can develop skills and strategies that will serve you throughout your life. I work hard to balance acceptance and change from a place of non-judgment and validation while pushing you to be the best you that you can be. In addition to emotional issues and trauma, I specialize in women’s issues and multicultural issues. I can help you through post-partum difficulties, pregnancy loss, and new mom (or not so new mom) challenges. I also employ a multicultural, systemic perspective in treatment. I know how much your environment can impact your well-being and sense of self. While I’m most familiar with challenges that the South Asian community faces, I have a good understanding of the impact of the general culture on our lives.I work primarily with adults in individual, couples, and group therapy formats. If you are willing to put in the effort required to change your life, I would love to work with you to make that happen. Check out my website or give me a call to see if we’d be a good fit for each other. I look forward to helping you find that lotus flower amongst the mud.
