Michael McHugh
Clinical Social Worker/Therapist -
I know how difficult it is to ask for help. I strive to build a safe and trusting space in order to help that person feel respected and heard. I have found the practice of empathy and compassion central is building a strong therapeutic relationship. I seek to help individuals reduce negative self worth, guilt/shame, and fear. I help clients come out of isolation and self criticism and learn to take effective committed action in their behalf. I help clients see the importance of living with integrity, wisdom, humility. I have had the privilege of working as a clinical social worker for over 25 years. I have specialized working with adults. I have years of experience working with individuals struggling with drug addiction as well as psychiatric illnesses. I have worked with adults seeking help for depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder trauma, or stress. My work has been influenced by the 12 step AA recovery process, attachment theory, neurobiology, mindfulness meditation, CBT, DBT and ACT ( acceptance and commitment therapy) Being a therapist is a sacred trust. The process I practice- mindfulness- seeks to integrate mind, body and relationships on the path of recovery.
