Melanie Rabalais
Licensed Mental Health Counselor -
Do you feel stuck out on your own private island? Are you feeling lonely all the time even with other people? Everyone feels lonely occasionally and some people enjoy solitude, but loneliness is the feeling of one’s social needs not being met. Feeling emotionally cutoff and isolated from society can lead to depression, low self esteem and social anxiety. Even technology, a 24/7 presence in our lives now more than ever can sometimes emphasize our current social barriers. It seems easier or required to spend more time on devices than with people. Together we can use therapeutic tools to calm social anxiety and strengthen connections with the other people around you. This time of separation can also give you a chance to work on self compassion by using the tools of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). Clients find that I am kind and use my humor to create a calm and relaxed space. I make sure goals are set to foster feelings of accomplishment. Using person centered techniques and mindfulness give me the opportunity to work with people in life transitions especially those due to Covid-19, people with relationship issues, anxiety, and depression.I want my clients to feel like I am holding space for them to meet them where they are in therapy. I am a visual thinker so I like to use expressive arts in my work if it seems helpful for my client.
