Psychotherapist; Licensed Clinical Social Worker; Psychoanalyst -
I have been trained in a variety of treatment modalities and I draw from my eclectic background to determine the best way to work with each person. I don’t believe there is one type of treatment that will fit everyone.
Often people seek therapy when they feel distress, hopelessness, or are feeling overwhelmed due to a particular event which is occurring. These are very clear times when a person will seek treatment in order to understand and overcome these feelings. However, sometimes one feels unhappy, stressed, isolated, unable to focus, or acts in a way which interferes with the enjoyment of their daily life but it’s unclear as to what exactly is causing this. Therapy is a joint process whereby the therapist helps the person seeking treatment deepen their understanding of themselves in order to make needed changes in their lives or overcome obstacles which are interfering with their quality of life. Therapy can result in a number of benefits, such as a reduction in depression, stress, and anxiety; a decrease in negative thoughts and self-defeating behaviors; improved social, work, and family relationships; and increased self-confidence. During the course of therapy, you may also experience some discomfort, including remembering and discussing difficult events, feelings, and experiences. I will help you deal with the feelings which arise in order for you to understand your inner world, learn coping skills, communicate better, improve self-esteem, understand self-defeating patterns, and create change.
At times, when one has experienced trauma, especially childhood trauma, one doesn’t have the words or memories readily available. I find working with the mind-body connection beneficial at these times as there is often a physical manifestation of the trauma which is unable to be verbalized.
Finding a therapist you are comfortable working with is essential in order to get the most out of treatment. I will work to create a safe, nonjudgemental space where trust can build and where you can feel comfortable being open and honest.
