Lindsay Sherman
Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Art Therapist -
It takes courage to ask a stranger, even a professional, for help. Yet, the first step is often the most important. With a non-judgmental and collaborative client-therapist relationship as a foundation, I truly believe in one’s capacity to create powerful and lasting change. As both a seasoned trauma therapist and a person with lived chronic pain experience, I am in a unique position to help others struggling with chronic pain, illness, or disability. I can assist with learning self-advocacy in the medical world, brainstorm accommodations to create a long-term, sustainable lifestyle, and develop coping strategies for when pain or disability triggers feelings of hopelessness, depression, or anxiety. Pain, illness, and disability can create a vicious cycle of stress, but help is available to create new, healthy patterns in your life.
The experience of chronic pain and disability can include both grief and trauma; these are normal reactions and you deserve space to process this with a professional who can validate your experiences. Living in harmony with a dysfunctional body is not impossible. The path to acceptance can be fraught with struggle and resistance, but the journey is well worth it. I am also trained as a Master’s level Art Therapist, and offer non-verbal interventions for when words just aren’t enough.
Clients who work well with me want a therapist who speaks with them, not to or at them. I have professional expertise in mental health and chronic pain; but you are the expert of your own life. Pain and disability can rattle even the most stable of people; let’s work together to create the change you want. Your mental health is a worthwhile investment.
