Laura Wilhoit

Psychologist -

If you are adjusting to motherhood, being challenged as a parent, or struggling with postpartum depression, I would like to help support you. As a mother of 3 children myself, I know how hard it can be and how we often have to learn new skills during this phase of life. If you are trying to be the best version of yourself as a parent or mother and something is getting in the way, I would like to help you figure out what that is and how to make actionable changes along the way.
Another specialty I have is working with addictions. If you find that your drinking or substance use might be more than you would like and is making you question it, please feel free to reach out. Ever since I was a case manager working with “dual diagnosis” clients and getting training to be a substance use counselor in Denver, I have worked with substance use clients throughout my career. In my training, I worked at a crisis house and then an inpatient psychiatric hospital, both of which treated both mood disorders and substance use disorders. Later, I worked at a rehab facility that took an alternative approach to AA and then completed did my postdoctoral training at an Addictive Disorders Outpatient Program that treated both mood disorders and substance use disorders.
I also worked 6 years in a primary care setting where we treated a variety of issues including postpartum depression. My therapy style is eclectic, meaning that I incorporate different types of therapy into my approach, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), & Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) to individualize care.
We all go through times when things are hard and we need someone to listen, to relate, and to help give us insight into how to make effective changes. Therapy can be a great place to get an outside perspective. I would like to help you live your life to the fullest, by using your strengths as a foundation and shoring up potential areas of struggle. If you think that you would be interested, feel free to reach out to me at Realize Psychotherapy for a free 15 minute consultation.
