Katy Lonergan
Psychologist - Ph.D.
I am a San Francisco-based Clinical Psychologist (PSY27926) specalizing in anxiety, depression, and attachment-related interpersonal struggles. Finding the right therapist is about the right fit. You need to feel comfortable and safe in order to do the life-changing work that will bring back that sense of joy and connection. I view each person has as having a wonderfully unique set of circumstances and those are to be honored. I view each client as the expert of themselves and I am a guide. I love working with people with depression and anxiety because they tend to be such amazingly talented, driven, and caring people once the fog of the depression and anxiety dissipates and they are able to reclaim their lives.
Ok, some of the more technical background…I am a San Francisco native and have been working with people with depression, anxiety, and relational trauma since 2005. I left the Bay Area to attend the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington where I earned a B.A. in Psychology. After working in the corporate environment for several years and earning a master’s degree in Human Resources and Organizational Development, I was called back to my true passion of providing support to those in need while volunteeing at Irene Swindell’s Adult Day Health Program (partnerhship between the Institute on Aging and CPMC). I then returned to graduate school and I earned my M.S. and Ph.D. in Clincial Psychology at Pacific Graduate School of Psychology at Palo Alto University with an emphasis in Health Psychology. It has been one of the best decisions. I have worked in a variety of settings – outpatient community mental health clinics, a residential care facilities for the elderly, San Mateo Medical Center, Stanford School of Medicine – with the youngest young and the oldest old. I enjoy working with all ages. I am deeply compassionate, nonjudgmental, and very open-minded. I believe we are all inherenly good. I love the work I do and am truly honored to be let into people’s lives and witness the incredible healing that is possible.I am a member of the San Francisco Psychological Association, the California Psychological Association, the American Psychological Association.
