Karen Dubin-McKnight

Psychotherapist - PhD, LCSW

That first step you take when you are looking for a therapist can be very hard to make. You have also decided to take that step for a number of reasons. It is important that whomever you decide to work with to guide you on your path toward greater personal strength and wellness is the right fit.
I’m eclectic in my approach, having several tools (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, to name a few) at my disposal. This allows me to meet my clients where they are and to adjust to their needs. I believe in following a multidimensional approach, and ensuring that the process is collaborative. You are the expert of your own life; my job is to help you feel empowered and live life to the fullest.
I am a Columbia trained, Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New York City, with 18 years of experience working with families, adolescents, and adults with anxiety and trauma (associated with grief and loss, as well as workplace stress and trauma). I also work with families with loved-ones living with serious mental illness. I have worked with individuals undergoing role transition, major life changes, and groups of individuals requiring holding difficult conversations and remediation.
I have also been supervising and coaching students and experienced professionals of varying backgrounds and have helped them figure out their career path for the past 15 years.
I have an extensive history working within the court system, operating programs, supervising staff and conducting evaluations.
