Kamaria Excell
Licensed Master Social Worker -
“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.”
I love this quote by Maya Angelou because it beautifully speaks to my approach to holding space for clients.Apart of my approach is to assist clients in cultivating a beautiful life that centers your pleasure, joy, and wellness. I do this by utilizing numerous approaches that blend the power of the arts, storytelling, embodied knowledge discourse, Intersectional Feminism, radical world making, CBT, and so much more. I have over a decade of experience and history of working with folks navigating the intersections of race, class, gender, sexuality, disability, and other marginalized markers of identity.Originally from California, I credit my arts-based lens to the vibrancy of South Central LA. My diverse work and lived experiences have equipped me with the skills to adequately create an affirming space that allows clients to dig deeper into themes related to healing from both interpersonal trauma and systems of oppression. Having been trained in Black Feminist Theory and Praxis at Spelman College and Clinical Social Work at Columbia University, I am sincerely invested in making a lasting impact through the mobilization of decolonial practices in fighting for the abolishment of structural and systemic barriers to equity for BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities, both inside and outside the therapeutic space. As a Black Queer Feminist, Doula, and Social Worker, I practice from an abolitionist lens and rootedness in the Diaspora. I would be honored to be in community with you and hold space through your healing journey.
