Joe Wilkerson
Counselor - LPC, LCAS
I consider myself a “perfectionist in recovery,” and love helping people develop healthy self-acceptance. As kiddos, we learn to place immense pressure on ourselves to feel and behave in certain ways. During hard times in our lives, this creates painful inner conflict, which contributes to all sorts of problems: anxiety, depression, anger, shame, physical pain, addiction, and more. In therapy, I guide my clients through a gentle, exploratory process that helps them let go of old patterns and develop new ones. Each day, I see my clients become more trusting of themselves, love bravely, and pursue their hearts’ desires.
I specialize in incorporating awareness of the body into the counseling process. This contemplative practice leads to deeper, lasting, and more satisfying change than “figuring things out” mentally. Counseling with me is primarily about learning to relax and experience yourself more deeply. I am also specialize in substance abuse recovery.
With body-integrated (somatic) therapy, I have helped many people safely and effectively release post-traumatic stress. I am passionate about helping resolve the legacy of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse, parental divorce, grief/loss, and relationship problems.
