Heather Tilbury
Clinical Social Worker/Therapist -
I feel deeply about my relationships with other people; I want people to feel important, listened to and competent. I want the best for the people who I work with and I want them to feel empowered to make their own decisions that fit for them. Life is a journey which has good parts and hard parts. There is no shame in seeking help and guidance. I work with people across their life-span from soon-to-be or new parents to persons who are reflecting back on their journey. It’s all important, it all matters.
I really like the benefits of using an EMDR model with people I work with. It is very effective for many types of issues as it works with our own internal and innate healing abilities. It focuses on experiences we are currently having, from our past and also future anticipated events. It helps people to feel more calm and confident in themselves and their own abilities. I also enjoy helping people understand their human self and how our mental health can affect our whole health. I provide a lot of education about how our mind and emotions work; how the body regulates itself and how traumatic experiences can affect our future selves. The more we understand about ourselves helps us to be aware of why we react in certain ways; helps us have healthier relationships and ultimately can help our physical health.
I am also a play therapist and work with children and their parent(s) together to help parents learn engaging ways to bond with their infant or young child, fostering nurturing relationships that help children thrive and grow into competent adults. To do this they need good enough parents with enough tools to be responsive to their child’s needs while offering healthy boundaries in order to develop their own person. Kids are happier and parents are too!
Counseling services are provided online via live video. We are talking just like we are face-to-face except we are in different locations. It’s a lot easier for you as you don’t have to get out in traffic trying to get somewhere on time. You can participate from the comfort of your own space.
