Gary Grubb
Clinical Social Worker/Therapist - LCSW, MD and MPH
In addition to providing support in counseling sessions, one of my main goals is to give a client more skills and tools to treat their mental health problems on their own. To do that, I research the local, expert, self-help book and internet resources that would best help a client address their mental heath problems outside of therapy. From my background in prevention, I help clients anticipate and counter problems related to their illness that are likely to lead to emotional discomfort. Such problems include preparing for interactions arising from others’ ignorance of their illness and situation, societal stigma, and difficult conversations with loved ones about sensitive topics. With my medical background, I can better communicate the client’s problems and needs to their medical providers, if requested by the client.
