I invite you to take a moment and place your awareness on the area of your heart. Take a few easy breaths. What do you notice? Does your heart feel open, light, and spacious? Or does it jump, shrink back, contract, feel heavy, vulnerable, or closed off?
There’s no escaping a basic truth — being human means there will invariably be some pain. There is another truth — that it is possible to live more freely, and less like a ball being tossed back and forth between whatever force at the moment is the strongest in your life.
My focus in working with clients is to assist in expanding resilience — the state in which one is best able to function and respond to the stressors of life effectively. I am committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental space for clients to work through the emotions, thoughts, and body-based reactions to the issues they are wanting to address. Because many of these reactions are guided by areas of the brain and the nervous system that do not have verbal language, having an intellectual understanding of an issue is often not enough to bring about desired change. The modality I use to address these reactions is Natural Processing, which utilizes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) with a strong focus on how reactions and emotions are held in the body and nervous system.
We can’t change the past. We can hold awareness around how the past shows up in the present moment, sustain awareness of the activation to allow the pieces that are holding it in place to have the opportunity to discharge and possibly resolve.
