Licensed Mental Health Counselor -
I truly believe that it is important to emphasize the importance of the mind-body connection and overall wellness, and the importance of being mindful of your body and reactions. I find it is important to take the time to ensure that my work with each client is individualized and takes culture and preferences into account, and also takes a collaborative approach with clients, in order to tailor treatment to what works best for each individual.Through an eclectic approach to therapy, I use a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Person Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) uses bilateral stimulation (tapping, rapid eye movements) to tap into the brain’s own ability to reprocess and heal, in order to resolve both current and old traumas. When a person experiences a trauma, their brain often shuts down the “healthy” thinking and processing. This can cause feelings of being stuck and inability to process that event or trauma. EMDR has shown that it affects the brain’s ability to process information, and this can help to rewire and reprocess both old and new memories or traumas.
