Hi! I’m Dave Payne. I have been a licensed counselor since Spring of 2009, and I love what I do.I work with clients to help them find healthier, more productive ways to address their depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship problems, and more.
–EMOTIONALLY-FOCUSED THERAPY FOR COUPLES–
I provide couples counseling using Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), which is an evidenced-based approach, meaning it is supported by numerous scientific studies that show its efficacy. In EFT sessions, I focus on helping you and your partner identify and understand your unhelpful patterns of emotionally reacting to each other. I then help you and your partner learn how to reconnect through this improved understanding of each other’s emotions. I have received professional training in EFT, and I’m confident that this method can help couples improve their relationships in a way that creates lasting results.
Although I don’t assume to know exactly what your pain (depression, anxiety, etc.) feels like, I am confident that I have a good understanding of how difficult it can be in general to live with such invasive conditions.
In counseling sessions, I provide an understanding, non-judgmental, and relaxing atmosphere in which you can comfortably work through your problems. I can teach you helpful coping techniques to fit your particular situation, or just listen and provide feedback if that’s what you seek.
We can make your therapy sessions the most helpful by sitting down and having some real, authentic conversations. Once you feel comfortable enough, you share the parts of your personality, thoughts, and feelings that you might feel afraid of being judged for. I realize this is not easy for many people, so I encourage you to move at your own pace. When you recognize that I’m not judging you, you’ll see that you’ve found a safe place to work on the kind of self-improvement that can really help throughout the rest of your life.
Then, for my part, I’ll share honest and empathetic feedback on what might be working for you and against you. Together, we’ll work on helping you modify things you think and do that may be getting in your way in the long run (even though a lot of these things seem to help you deal with stress in the short run).
