Christine Garnett
Licensed Mental Health Counselor -
Beginning therapy can be a nerve wracking process – sometimes it’s uncomfortable to start something new, to share things about yourself, and to not know what may happen next. My therapy style is warm, understanding, and validating with a touch of humor. It’s okay if you feel like you can’t work out what you want to say or if you only know how to share your thoughts sarcastically. My role is to guide you back to your own inner wisdom while empowering you during the process which may look like exploring how you really feel, what your beliefs actually are, and continuing to support you in your motivation to complete your goals.
A lot of things may be running through your mind right now, “How do I find the right therapist?” “Can she actually help me?” “How can she help me if I’m not sure what is coming up for me?” along with past experiences in therapy or this may be your first time trying to find the right fit.
I help by supporting you in identifying the “why” of how you think, feel, and act and we work collaboratively to move you forward in your goals. We’ll discuss immediate coping skills to help you through the day-to-day and we’ll do additional work to resolve larger themes that may be contributing to you feeling unhappy, anxious, or hopeless.
I am passionate about working with anxiety in all of its forms (social, panic, agoraphobia, PTSD) and helping clients resolve traumas that continue to disrupt their lives. You may have asked yourself, “Why is this happening to me?” or felt exhausted from feeling anxious without knowing why. I know this because I’ve personally experienced the throws of anxiety which only fueled my motivation to learn more about it and utilize treatment techniques to help my clients that are experiencing it. When we work together, you’ll learn the purpose for your anxiety, why you feel it as intensely as you do, and how to take your life back.
It is important to note just how much of a unique individual that you are, someone who is rich with life experiences to help them, even if you do not believe so now, this is something we will work on together. Believing something is important and your confidence in achieving your goals is where you begin. Addressing challenges that impact those goals and confidence (persistent anxiety, depression, history of trauma, family/relationship conflict, addiction, and mental health diagnosis) is where I begin. Together, we meet these challenges head on and help build the life you were meant to live.
