“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.” —James Baldwin
Life is full of experiences—joyous, exciting, hopeful, sad, disappointing, scary. But when one understands themselves, they can engage life fully with possibility and promise.
I believe in the power of talk therapy. I have been in the mental healthcare field for over 20 years. As a therapist, I help people understand themselves, heal, grow, love, and cope with what they face, have faced, or will face. I listen, ask questions, and help my clients manage life. I value my clients’ differences, strengths, and unique perspectives to events and situations. As a black psychologist, I recognize and appreciate how one’s identities and experiences affect how they see themselves and the world and how to live in it. What this means is that therapy could explore many aspects of who you are, such as your multiple identities (race, social class, gender, sexuality, religion), behaviors, beliefs, life experiences, thoughts and feelings, and relationships. If you are feeling stressed, tired, sad, unhappy, unheard, confused and need a place to process and make sense of your experiences, I offer a supportive and non-judgmental space to talk and to be heard.
Many people neglect their mental well-being because of stigma or shame. They think talking about their problems is weakness. They are wrong. In fact, talking about your hopes, fears, stresses, sadness, and relationships can be the bravest thing you can do for yourself.
My style is welcoming & engaging, with curiosity and some humor. My hope is to build a relationship with you in which you can trust, reflect, grow, and progress. My goal is to work collaboratively with you to help you achieve your goals and to develop a happier, calmer, and more authentic self.
While searching for a therapist can sometimes feel daunting or overwhelming, once you find a good fit, it can be a rewarding experience. Thank you for your interest in seeking therapy with me. Please feel free to contact me to discuss how I might be a useful resource to help you live a more fulfilling life.
